I’m going to be candid with you. I have a mental illness. Actually, I’ve got several. I’m diagnosed with major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, PTSD, and show symptoms of OCD. All according to psychiatrists and therapists that I’ve seen over the years. I actually have another appointment soon to be seen again because things are becoming hard. Again.

What makes an altar?

I was sitting at my altar this morning, just for a few minutes, taking a quiet moment to myself before I left for work. It occurred to me that my altar doesn’t look how I wished it would, but that’s ok. There’s a lot of extenuating circumstances around my altar and why it looks the way it does.

Creating a Consistent Practice

We’ve all been there, in the time when you have no time. When life gets too hectic for you to keep your wits about you, let alone practice your faith. When each tick of the second hand on the clock is a reminder that you’re running out of time, and your to-do list just keeps growing. You’re not alone. If you’ve grown up with any amount of pop-culture in your life, you’re probably familiar with the image of the g*psy woman dressed to the nines, headscarf and all, sitting behind a little wooden table with her crystal ball and tarot cards. Let me be honest with you. That’s so far from the truth of reading tarot today! I’m not even sure where that image came from, but I know that it is based in some semblance of fact. Balancing Act: Making Time when Life gets Chaotic

With just work and sleep, I’m down 17 hours and 10 minutes. Then I have the other stuff I need to do: get ready for work, pack lunch, wake up Em (my daughter’s nickname), get her ready if she’s not staying home with her dad (which will not be happening starting next week because she starts school), drive to work, do the work, drive home from work, help with dinner, cleanup, get Em ready for bed, do laundry, etc. etc.

Hot Air Balloons: A Metaphor for Life?

Recently, we went to the Bacon, Brews, and Balloons Festival here in Redmond, Oregon, and a thought struck me as I watched these hot air balloons inflate. I was also thinking about how scary it would be (for me, at least) to be up in a hot air balloon. Think about it, though. You can’t control where it goes once it is in the air. There’s no way to steer a hot air balloon and the only thing you can control is the altitude! A good hot air balloon pilot can plot out their course based on extensive review of the weather and wind maps, but that can all change relatively quickly.
