Embodying Faith? – Thoughtful Thursday
Welcome to the Thoughtful Thursday series, where I ask a thought-provoking question every week to inspire reflection and introspection. You can find more questions in this series by clicking here!
Today’s Question
How do you live and embody your faith in everyday life?
This question was inspired by my time at the MPCA’s Leadership Development Conference. One of the presenters spoke briefly about living your faith, not just practicing it. Though that wasn’t the topic of their discussion, it really brought up this question for me. How do I live and embody my faith and beliefs in everyday life?
It was hard for me to answer at first glance. I was only answering for myself, but I felt kind of silly when I couldn’t come up with a single answer. There were answers, though — my problem was that I was thinking too big, too religious, and too obvious. Yes, I cast spells and perform magic for myself and my community. Yes, I have candles and pagan objects around my house that I use. But that’s not me living and embodying my faith.
Instead, embodying my faith means so much, and once I sat down to answer this question, it was easy to come up with an answer.
It means seeing all life as sacred and worthy of living.
It means knowing that it’s okay to move with the seasons, and allowing myself to do so.
It means knowing that speaking to the trees in my backyard is more than a conversation with a tree.
It means that every action is taken with thought, because I know I have an impact on the world around me, even if it is small.
It means showing up for my community when I’m needed, and even when I’m not.
It means trusting my intuition about someone or something, even when everyone else around me is unbothered.
It means pulling some cards and doing a reading when I need clarity or comfort.
It means cooking a healthy meal for my family and friends, serving the people I love with gratitude and joy — both in my attitude and imbued in the food I cook.
Living my faith means a lot to me. It means living an authentic life bound by no one’s rules but my own, in service to my community and the Spirits around me.
Thoughtful Thursday is meant to be inspiring, thought-provoking, and reflective.
