Not all who wander… – Thoughtful Thursday
Welcome to the Thoughtful Thursday series, where I ask a thought-provoking question every week to inspire reflection and introspection. You can find more questions in this series by clicking here!
Today’s Question
Do you prefer to wander on your path? Or do you choose to stay with what you know?
Today’s question is inspired by a quote from Finch, my little Birb friend in the self-care app. I know the original quote is from Thoreau, but this one is from Bilbo Baggins.

I tend to wander in my practice. Since I first discovered witchcraft and paganism, I have explored varying belief systems and methods of practicing magic. Even now, I sit in the middle of a transitory phase in my magical life! I like structure and routine, but I also get bored with doing the same thing over and over again. That’s not to say that I find my beliefs boring, but the repetition of rituals, spells, and holidays starts to feel more like a burden rather than a meaningful part of my life. When that happens, I know it’s time to switch something up.
I’m also a lifelong student. I enjoy learning about new belief systems, new ways to practice magic, and new methods of achieving my goals. Even if I don’t put that knowledge to practical use, having an understanding of the way others do things makes me a better witch — it honestly makes me a better person.
Sometimes I choose to wander on purpose, losing myself in whatever whimsy and interest carry me away at the time. It seems like I’m lost, but I like to think of it more as floating, like a jellyfish that follows the currents and trusts the ocean to lead me where I need to go.
Thoughtful Thursday is meant to be inspiring, thought-provoking, and reflective.
