I’m more than a witch, you know!

Did you know I’m a real person? [cue shock and awe] I hate the idea of niching down my content fully so sometimes I like to post things that don’t have anything to do with witchcraft. That’s what today is!

I found a question tag on YouTube called #MoreThanAWitch — it has 11 questions for an individual to answer that don’t really have anything to do with witchcraft. I decided that yes, I was going to do that video! So here are my answers in blog form — don’t worry, the video is at the bottom of this post if you want to skip all the text and just watch the video. What’s your name? Is there a meaning behind it?

So in case you’ve missed it at anywhere, my name is Megan. As far as I know, I don’t have any meanings connected to my name — not that I have been told. I wasn’t named after anybody for my first name. I was named after somebody for my middle name but you don’t get that.

I don’t think I have a meaning to my first name. I can tell you that it was a name that I didn’t really connect with for a really long time. I think sometimes I still feel like it doesn’t really belong to me, which sounds really weird. But I don’t know! I don’t always feel like a Megan.

How old are you?

I am 31. I just turned 31 on November 8th, so happy birthday to me! Yeah I’m 31 years old. I don’t feel 31. I generally still feel much younger, at least in mind. Not so much in body. My body tends to feel like I’m much older than I actually am.

Do you use astrology? What are your big three?

My experience with astrology is very surface level, very basic. I know my sun, moon, and rising. I’m a Scorpio sun, Sagittarius moon, and Gemini rising. I’ve done my whole astrological chart through Astrograph or something. I have Time Passages on my phone that I look at occasionally, but astrology is something that is very large. It’s a very big subject with a lot of working parts that I just don’t have time to really dig deep into and learn a lot about right now. So I try to use astrology but not on a regular basis at all.

Did you grow up in a religious household? What religion? And did that influence your current spiritual path?

So my family has never really been super religious, my immediate family anyway. We grew up basically Christian. We would go to church occasionally. There was a period of time where I had found Wicca as a young teen — maybe 12 or 13 years old — and then I was really missing out on the community aspect of religion and faith so I actually went back to church. I was heavily involved in my local church for a couple years and then decided that it wasn’t for me after I sat through a sermon for our teen service one day where the pastors were talking about abortion and the lgbtq+ community — how being gay is a sin and God doesn’t make people that way and abortion is wrong.

I just couldn’t wrap my head around how if the Christian God supposedly didn’t make mistakes then why was I being labeled a mistake? Because I do consider myself part of the queer community as a pansexual person. So I just couldn’t wrap my mind around that. I decided that the church was no longer for me. I came back to Wicca and that’s really what it’s been since. Well, not Wicca in general. I’m more of a Celtic polytheist now.

My grandparents on my dad’s side were Mormon. Both have since passed. I do remember going to church with them a couple of times. I liked the singing! I remember playing underneath the pews at the church with my little like unicorn dolls, going to Sunday school. But I was really young, maybe like eight or nine. Maybe even younger than that, I don’t really remember how old I was. But yeah, they were the only ones in my family who were really religious on any sort of regular basis. I remember asking my grandma one time many years ago when I was a kid and she had a cold or something — she was still getting ready to go to church. And I was very confused because when you’re sick you should stay home and rest and take care of yourself. And she’s like well, I have to go to church for my service to worship God. I asked her why can’t you worship God at home? She didn’t like that question very much and I didn’t get much of a response from her. But that is definitely one thing that I do remember. So overall I didn’t really grow up in a religious household. We went to church when it was convenient for us and then I found paganism and I don’t go to church anymore.

What are you manifesting for your future?

Honestly, I don’t know. I’m at a point in my life right now where thinking too far ahead about the future scares me and I’m just now getting my mental health back under control. So I think the only things I’m really manifesting — if I can even say manifesting because they’re more mundane things that I’m working through myself with some like prayers and stuff — all have to do with my own internal struggles. Depression, anxiety, getting diagnosed with ADHD, trying to figure all of that stuff out.

I guess I really would like to manifest growing the channel, growing my podcast and different things like that but honestly this is something that is a passion project of mine. I don’t really focus heavily on the analytics and having an upload schedule and making a bunch of money from YouTube. I mean, I have a job outside of YouTube that I do anyway. I’m fortunate enough that it does pertain to Witchcraft and polytheism, but I think that would be one of the only real things that I could think of besides manifesting the energy to finish working on my garden for the next growing season.

Do you have a favorite season? What time of year makes you feel the most authentically you?

I really like fall, and I guess winter here in Florida because it’s like fall everywhere else. I want to say summer just because I really enjoy going to the beach but it’s really freaking hot in the summer, summer is hurricane season and the rainy season… I mean, I enjoy the rain and the thunderstorms and I mean maybe I like all of the seasons for one thing or another. Yeah I don’t know.

This is an interesting question that I’ve never really thought about. If you would have asked me while I still lived in Oregon I think I probably would have said that my favorite season was fall because it was that point where it was no longer warm but there wasn’t a bunch of snow on the ground and it wasn’t freezing cold either. So I think here in Florida, since there’s not really four distinct seasons like everywhere else that I have lived, I don’t know. I like them all.

As far as feeling authentically me? Like that is a whole other can of worms because I’m still trying to figure out who I am outside of like masking and mirroring, things that I have recently discovered have been parts of my life. So as far as feeling authentically me I’ll let you know when that happens.

Do you have a favorite color? Do you feel this is your aura color? If not, what do you think your aura color is?

My favorite colors generally tend to be more neutral. I like black, earthy tones, browns and greens. Darker colors, darker and deeper purples and reds. I don’t think I have a specific favorite color unless you count black. I mean, I wear black on a consistent basis at least every day. So I hope black is not my aura color, and I don’t know anything about auras so I’m not even going to take a guess at what my aura color is. If you want to let me know what my aura color is or what you think it is I mean, feel free to let me know in the comments below because aura is just not something I’m interested in at all. I mean, maybe it’s bright pink. Who knows?

Do you have a job/career/lifestyle that makes money or helps support you and your family? And what do you do?

So I do. I am a community manager and content specialist for Spells8 which is a Wiccan/Pagan website here on the internet that has a whole community forum thing along with it. So Spells8 is a subscription-based website. With the subscription there’s like different little courses that you can take, there is information about deities and herbs and there’s a bunch of different spells and stuff on the website. So my job with Spells8 as part of like community manager content specialist type thing is I help run the community — moderation, ideas of like activities and things like that. But I also do some of the article writing and editing on the website.

So yeah, that’s basically what I do there. Elsewhere you know, I write crochet patterns. I sell crochet stuff. I have a shop if you didn’t know. You can get some crochet things that I make or if you crochet yourself I have patterns for sale. What else…? I have a membership program but that doesn’t really help pay the bills. It’s just extra for anybody that wants to support ‘Round The Cauldron and the things that I do here. I have narrated a couple of audiobooks but that’s not really something I’m doing anymore, mainly because I don’t have a professional studio setup so it’s difficult sometimes to get the house quiet enough for me to be able to do that and do it well.

What are some things that make you unique and an individual?

This question confuses me. I’m my own person, I guess? There are things that only I can do. I think? I don’t… I don’t know. This question is hard. I’m already working on figuring out who I am myself so I mean like what makes me unique? I don’t know. I can’t answer this question, which is sad. Yeah next question.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Oh where should I start? I would tell my younger self that the opinions of others don’t mean anything to me, that I shouldn’t base my value or my worth on what other people say and what other people think of me…to be unapologetically myself. I would teach my younger self what masking and mirroring is so that I could figure out when I was doing it a lot earlier. Then I might know who I actually am, what I actually enjoy and what I don’t enjoy, and what I do just for the sake of going through the motions because it’s what’s expected. There’s probably a lot more but I can’t really think of them right now. Just I guess just like figure out who you are and what you enjoy and do those things and do them unapologetically. And stand up for yourself. Stand up for yourself more. Use your voice.

What are your favorite interests, hobbies, or activities outside of witchcraft?

The only thing that can come to my mind right now is crochet and reading, although I don’t read as much as I would like. I also enjoy playing video games. Me and my fiancé, we play RuneScape together. I was playing World of Warcraft but I just — it takes too much effort and too much time to enjoy the game in a way that I want to enjoy it. I don’t have a lot of time to spend playing it so I just don’t play it anymore. But I crochet and I really enjoy crocheting and making things with my hands. Reading. I love a good story, fiction or non-fiction.

I don’t know. I feel like that’s like a half-assed answer but I mean again, I’m still trying to figure out who I am and what I like. Swimming! I like swimming. I enjoy swimming. I could swim all day long, all day long. Pool, ocean — not the rivers, not here in Florida. Not the lakes here in Florida either. That’s dangerous and asking for trouble.
