Where do you feel at home?

I constantly suffer from a feeling of homesickness, but why? It doesn’t matter where I am – even if I am at home – I still get the feeling of homesickness in the pit of my stomach. Now, it doesn’t happen every day, but it happens often enough that I used to think something was wrong with me. Ever since I was a child, I’ve felt like this. When I was a kid, I used to wonder what was wrong with me and why I never felt at home. Now as I’ve gotten older, I think I have it figured out. I don’t feel at home at a certain place. My house? Nope, doesn’t matter. Work? Nope, doesn’t matter either. Family’s house? Nope, that doesn’t matter at all. So what gives?

I’m pretty sure that the reason for this is because I have always been so distanced from the natural world. I’ve always grown up in a house/apartment. I’ve always lived in a neighborhood. I’ve always lived in a city or a suburb of a city. I recently took my daughter to Tumalo Falls here in Oregon (you can see part of it in the picture above!) for a little hike and some back-to-nature feels. And you know what? That’s where I feel at home. In nature with the trees, the animals, and yes, even the bugs. Earth is very grounding. Nature is very grounding, and that’s what I’ve been missing in my life. Nature. That’s where I feel at home.

So where do you feel most at home? Is it a place? With a person? Let me know! Leave a comment here or, if you write a post of your own, drop your link. I’d love to read them!
